How to celebrate Christmas in the Lakes and surrounds

Picture this: it’s 7am, snow is gliding down outside, and you’re all bundled up in a cosy double bed on your getaway in the Lakes. There’s only a few days until Christmas and you’re full of festive spirit – but where do you celebrate? Are there activities nearby? Are some places more Christmassy than others?

With Christmas becoming one of the biggest events in the annual calendar it’s important to celebrate it properly. And part of those celebrations is the events that lead up to the big day! We’ve picked some of our favourites to get the festive season started and ensure you have a very jolly holiday.

Best for Adults:

Live Music & Festive Afternoon Tea, Inn on the Lake

If a sophisticated Christmas is what you’re after look no further. Arguably the perfect festive treat for you and a loved one, experiencing a festive Afternoon Tea whilst overlooking some stunning scenes and live music. Karen West, a talented pianist, will be putting the final touches to the atmosphere to make the experience unforgettable. Book you tickets here.

Best for Families:

Holker Winter Market

We’re not saying we only went for the mulled wine… but the mulled wine was pretty amazing.

Last year we personally tested the beautifully rustic delights of the Holker Winter Market. It takes a lot to get us out of the house when it’s cold and wet outside, however this market was more than enough to put a spring in our step and help us stock up on Christmas goodies and presents for the whole family.

The fact that almost everything is local, handmade, or both makes the market a wonderful experience full of things that are unique and far away from high street finds. The live music really brightened everyone’s mood up too and made it feel like Christmas was well and truly on its way despite the market being in November!

Tickets are only £3 (kiddies go free, and so is parking), and dogs are welcome too!

Join Santa as he travels from Ravenglass to Dalegarth to his secret grotto where Christmas delights await. You get a drink and mince pie too – and there’s even an option to include a festive lunch! Although many think the Lake District is solely a place to walk alpacas – hopefully this list has shown you there’s a few other options to hand. But for those adventurers that still want that instagramable experience, it’s definable not one to miss. Alpacaly Ever After is an amazing company based in Keswick that lets you and some mates go for a stroll or hike (or even just a meet and greet) with a lovely lot of Alpacas #NotToMiss.
